INDIKON logo In 2007, racing sailor and offshore fisherman Todd Berman came up with a novel idea for a new kind of boat: a hybrid vessel that would combine the pure, clean power of the wind - which is universally available, has no cost, and creates no emissions - with the comfort and convenience of a highly efficient, easily driven motor yacht, thus giving its owners the best of both worlds.

Morelli & Melvin

Todd approached his friend Pete Melvin - a champion multihull racer and designer who, with his partner, Gino Morelli, has been on the cutting edge of high-performance catamaran development for over two decades - with the outline of his concept.

Morrelli & Melvin has a proven track record of designing leading edge, energy efficient, fast multihulls, monohulls, and powerboats - click on their logo to find out more.

Pete took the idea back to his studio at Morelli & Melvin and after several months of gestation and design work the innovative catamaran now named "INDIKON" was born.

In a moderate breeze, INDIKON will be a pure sailboat.

In calm winds, it will cruise efficiently at 15 knots under power.

But the INDIKON k4 will truly shine using sail and power in combination, fundamentally changing perceptions about what is possible in a sail/power hybrid.

To maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the boat's hybrid potential, INDIKON k4 incorporates a patented tool - INDIKRUISE.

INDIKRUISE is a revolutionary on-board "coaching" system that offers guidance on how to trim the sails and apply the engines to optimize the speed, comfort and efficiency of the vessel in any given situation. (See details of the INDIKRUISE system on the k4 model page on this website - link here.)

This is just the beginning of the story, with the range of models on offer due to be expanded with the larger k5 and smaller k3 designs under development.
